-How bout that dub?

howdy

Hello there! I've decided to create a page on my thoughts on animes I've watched. I like reccomend things to people but it's kind of hard to tell what they'd actually be interested in so here are some things I like about these series. Well most of them. Some of them are dragged through the mud because they're garbage. I rate them - based on overall production. Not necessarily how much I like the series. There are some lower rated ones I love. -s are must watches but s and s are pretty good depending on what you like to watch.

For reference. The is how much homosexuality is in it. The is how good the female characters are or how much the author just hates women. Don't get hung up on those. An anime with a lower women rating isn't necessarily sexist garbage, I just like to catagorize things. is only relevant if I've read the manga and the only if I've watched the dub.

Adachi to Shimamura

Adachi to Shimamura is 2020 yuri anime based on a light novel series from 2013 written by Hitoma Iruma. It follows Sakura Adachi and her developing crush on fellow first year, Hougetsu Shimamura.

They don't go to class, instead chilling in the gym, and maybe thinking less than platonic thoughts about the other.

Adachi to Shimamura is okay. It's something you can put on if you want to see girls being homosexual. That's what you're going to get out of this.

Akiba Maid War

AKA Akiba Meido Senou.

How do I describe Akiba Maid War? Easily. It's a collection of yakuza movie tropes mixed with 90's otaku culture. This anime reimagines the maid cafe boom of the early 2000's to instead have been a long stading industry in Akihabara. One build on loyalty and tradition.

This brings a very serious approach to an otherwise light topic, but not too serious.

The show is very over the top and absurd. The first episode ends in a mock idol performance with the slaughter of a rival maid group.

It focuses on Wahira Nagomi, an up and coming maid just moving to Akihabara to join the Oiky Doink (Ton Toko Ton) Cafe along with another new hire Ranko Mannen.

Best girl award goes to the manager for being a fail woman.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Akudama Drive

Akudama Drive is a cool cyberpunk anime about basically being bullshitting your way into an elite criminal group. The Akumdama are some of the worst criminals there are, each getting their own nickname. Cutthroat, Doctor, Courier, Hacker, Brawler. If you're also an criminal doctor, too bad, there can only be one.

Our main character is Ordinary Person, or to the other criminals she's found herself with, Swindler. Swindler's a nice girl, all she wanted to do was return change to someone when suddenly she's being threatened to perform an impossible heist with the most deadly criminals around by a cat.

The characters are pretty standard, your stoic just wants to get the job done guy, your sociopath killer, your sexy doctor, your uh, guy who fights. They don't really delve into the characters backstories or anything. The most sympathetic of the bunch might be Hoodlum, a guy in the same boat as Swindler. The weakest I think may be doctor or maybe I'm just sick of sexy doctor types.

The visuals are insane, I love the colors, the character designs are done by Rui Komatsuzaki, the designer for Danganronpa.

Akuma no Riddle

AKA Riddle Story of Devil
Akuma no Riddle can be summed as lesbian assassins trying to murder each other.

Tokaku Azuma has just entered the Black Class, a class consisting of 12 assassins and one Haru Ichinose. Their goal? Be the first to kill Haru.

You might be asking, what did Haru ever do? She's a sweet, innocent cutie pie. Well you'll have to find out.

But she's not our protagonist, instead it's Tokaku, who has decided to protect Haru instead of stabbing her over and over. Why did she decide this when she herself has also been tasked with killing her? You'll also have to find that out. There's mystery, baby, there secrets.
It starts off with and excellent mood and you kinda wanna know what every character's deal is. They're all assassins after all, and each of them have their own backstories and methods of killing. It's pretty fun.

For awhile.. after a few episodes, it gets kind of boring. Little is done to change up the formula, it's an assassin shows up, tries to kill Haru, Tokaku defeats her.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Angel Beats

How do I describe angel beats. Well let's just say when looking up images for this part I found an amv for hey soul sister. so its the type of anime you can picture hey soul sister playing in the background. It's about a boy who lives in a limbo-like high school unable to die but still get killed anyway. Yuzuru Otonashi doesn't remember his life before his death and arrival at the school. And as soon as he arrives he's in the middle of an operation by the Shinda Sekai Sensen to attack Angel, the student body president. Angel is believed by the SSS to be an agent of god whos goal is to force them to move on. The SSS rebels by trying to take her out.

The phsycial jokes are funny. The characters for the most part are pretty interesting. Except the main character though. He's got bland main energy. Yuri Nakamura is the leader of the SSS and is pretty much we have Haruhi Suzumiya at home. Angel is emotionless and enforces the school rules. By participating and following the rules is how the students move on.

Ano Hana

AKA Ano Hi Mita Hana Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai AKA The Flower We Saw That Day

Anohana has been described as one of the saddest animes ever made. And those people are correct. The story follows Jinta Yadomi and his estranged group of friends reuinting under the common goal to grant one wish to their childhood friend Menma whom they haven't seen in five year. The reason they haven't seen her in so long? She's dead. Anohana is about grief, coping the loss of a friend, especially one as tragic as a child.

Jinta's friends grow distant specifically because of that loss, despite it being years, no one can fully process what happened, they all feel a part responsible of the accident. Jinta must try and bridge the distance between them to grant Menma's wish. Something which isn't easy to do, since he's the only one who can see her, and trying to explain your dead childhood friend wants you two to hang out isn't super convincing. Even he at first isn't exactly on board, still convinced she's a hallucination.

All of the characters in Anohana are deeply complex, they hall have their own ways of coping with Menma's death, most of which are unhealthy. Menma herself is portrayed as a saint, the others think of her as this pure spirit, a tragic figure that lives in their memory. Her ghost is pale, wearing a white dress. She's childish and innocent, because she still is a child.

Seeing the group slowly form back together it's apparent that not only did they drift apart because of the trauma of her death but because Menma was what kept them together.

Also there are gameboy advance sps in it baby! The best handheld console ever made!

Anime of all time just for the sp.

Anne Happy

Anne Happy is a 2016 anime about An Hanakoizumi and her friends trying to find happiness, and where better to that than the happiness class?

The happiness class is a class An is placed in when the school recognized her absolute terrible luck. The class is designed to teach its students to overcome their circumstances and thrive in life despite them.

So how is Anne Happy? It's fine. There characters have interesting quirks but they don't really go further than, isn't this wacky for a school girl to be? And like I guess...

It's mostly cute. That's the main draw. It's silly cute wacky adventures with wacky characters. It's about keeping a good atititude and finding joy in life.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Another

Another is an anime about ghosts.
Or rather, a ghost.

The story is about Kouichi Sakakibara, a transfer student who just enrolled into the cursed class of 3-3.

There he meets Mei Misaki, whom no one seems to be aware of exists. No one but him.
Kouichi can't help himself from looking into her and the mysteries that surround the class, despite being warned not to.

I can't say too much about Another without giving the game away. It's a pretty ominous show with good atmosphere... at first.

Honestly the show kind of takes a dive when the deaths start. They're sort of silly, visceral sure, but I feel like it's something to do with the bland art style that makes it just kinda not work.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Anasatsu Kyoushitsu

AKA Assassination Classroom.

Assassination Classroom is about a class of students with one goal in mind. To kill their teacher. Their teacher being a genetically engineered octopus monster, of course.

Nagisa Shiota is a member of Class 3-E, a class of unwanteds who are shunned to the derelict, shitty building of Kunugigaoka Middle School. No longer will they learn... idk, science, now they will learn how to be really good at killing people. Or else their teacher will destroy the world.

The thing about this is, it's really heartwarming. The bond the teacher has with his students, also their other teachers.

This anime was adapted from a manga by Yusei Matsui. He also wrote my favorite manga, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, but I'll talk about that more later.

Seasons: 2 Episodes: 47

Ao no Exorcist

AKA Blue Exorcist

Ao no Exorcist is about Rin Okura, who is the son of Satan. Something he just finds out at the start of the series. And something he has to keep secret or else he'll have to go to this world's version of hell and fight for his father.

To avoid that fate, Rin joins his brother, Yukio, in an an exorcist school for exorcist. In order to become and exorcist. As you can imagine, their job is to fight demons. Including half demons like Rin.

Rin and Yuiko are twins, but Yukio is much further along in his exocist training. Thankfully he also gets alot of screentime because I like him better. Rin is fine, he's just you know, delinquent protagonist number 403. Technically Rin is older but Yukio's got older brother energy.

The other characters are fine. Like, they're there. Rin really cherishes them, though, which is why he doesn't want them to find out he's a demon boy. That's the main tension surrounding the show. Don't let your demon hunting friends find out you're a demon.

On the whole it's pretty standard shounen. Training, fighting monsters, making friends, getting power ups. Aside from the christian elements, it doesn't stand out much.

Seasons: Episodes: 37

Aoharu x Kikanjuu

Aoharu x Kikanjuu is basically Ouran High School Host Club but with guns. Like almost exactly. Hotaru Tachibana is androgynous and mistaken for a boy when she wrecks a host club when she thinks they've scammed her friend. The main host, Masamune Matsuoka, conscripts her to join his survival game team in order to pay back for all the damage she's done. She meets her other teammate Touru Yukimura and starts to play matches.

And she starts to have fun, which is a problem since her teammates still think she's a boy and there's a no girls allowed rule on the team. Now she's all like what do I do? Do I reveal my gender? What if they hate me? You know what's up.

Aoharu x Kikanjuu is the best. It's so fun, it's so cute, I've read the manga and it's driving me crazy no one's watching this show.

Regardless, Aoharu x Kikanjuu kinda owns. Like it's just fun and the characters are interesting.

Best boy Yukimura

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Aoi Hana

AKA Sweet Blue Flowers

Aoi Hana is a yuri anime about Akira Okudaira and Fumi Manjoume who were childhood friends who were recently reuinted in highschool.

They now must try and be friends again, despite changing into different people.

It's very what comes to mind when you think of yuri. School girls wanting to hold hands with other girls.

It's fine, if not deeply deeply boring.

There's like 20 other girls love anime exactly like this, but done better. You'd be better off watching Bloom into You or Adachi to Shimamura.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 11

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio Ars Nova

AKA Arpeggio of Blue Steel.

That's right it's time for battleships but instead they're cute girls. If I had a nickle for every time I saw a show with battleships but they're anime waifus I'd have two nickles. However the main character isn't one of these girls, it's Gunzou Chihaya, who is the high school captain of one of these ships that he just so happened to have found and gained control over.

AHnA takes place in the future where rising sea levels have led humanity to mostly live on water. At some point sentient warship, possibly aliens, arrive and attack the humans. They are known as The Fleet of Fog and they're the said cute girl battleships. These cute girls are called mental modes and are in control of the ships. Gunzou has to fight the enemy ships with his own called Blue Steel and it's sentience, Iona. Sort of, his main goal is to deliver a prototype of a weapon to be used against The Fleet of Fog.

It's mostly military politics and battleship fighting.

All the Fleet of Fog members are based off real japanese warships.

The animation is actually 3D which doesn't often look too well but this anime pulls it off.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Apparae-Ranman!

Apparae-Ranman! Is a racing anime. But not that much of a racing anime. They spend very little time in the cars. Alot of it is just something happens and they can't race. So they have to figure it out so they can keep racing. I wish they would just stay in their cars.

It takes place in America, a hundred years ago. And in true anime fashion, it gets a little insentive. From the black man wearing a noose, to whatever's going on with Hototo, you have to not think about the implications too hard to actually like it.

So what's the plot? Appare, a Japanese inventor, and Kosame, a Japanese swordsman end up stranded in America. And they don't have any money so in order to get home, they have enter the "Trans-America Wild Race."

There's alot of standard western fare, gunfights, cowboys, indians, high-powered engines. The usual.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 13

Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo

AKA O Maidens in Your Savage Season.

This anime makes me depressed! It's about becoming a woman, and navigating the world of sex and romance as a teenager. Because one day you're a kid and you're not allowed to talk about those things. Then suddenly, everyone is talking about them, and you're expected to do them. It's about five girls and the way they develop. Either dealing with attraction to people you're not supposed to, or coping with being sexualized at a young age.

This anime gave me heart palpitaions at times. One sexual encounter got me so worried I almost had to stop. Some of them are pretty cool, the main character, Kazusa, and her clubmate Rika actually have pretty sweet storyline. Even Momoko's is pretty sweet if not a little sad. Hitoha and Niina's are deeply uncomfortable. But that doesn't mean they're bad. It actually draws an interesting comparison

I kind of hate this anime. It's good but like, oh my god I want to vomit watching it. But like a girl punches a pedophile in the face so you should probably watch it.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Asobi Asobase

Asobi Asobase falls into a category of slice of life that I call, cute girls doing things that should put them in jail. Not that they're doing crime, they just need to be separated from society.

Olivia is a transfer student, a certified white girl who connects with classmates, Hanako Honda, and Kasumi Nomura over small but fun games.

They then form a club, one dedicated to little games and various silly activities.

But why should these girls go to prison where they belong? Because what the fuck. The weird animation, the sheer nonsense that occurs in this club. It's off the charts. The transfer student? She doesn't even know english. She just pretends to. Why? What the fuck.

In the first episode a man tastes what might be piss of the ground and the shadow of detective conan appears. what the fuck. I hate this anime. 8/10.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Attack on Titan

Imagine Germany but naked giants are killing people all the time and eating them.

So what's to be done about that? Well humanity has imprisoned itself inside of the walls. Surely no titans will get past this.

But just in case we have a squad of specially-trained combatants that soar through the air on wires and slice those fuckers up. Ngl it's pretty fucking sick.

However, I don't really like this anime. It's too... incel chad core? Every sigma male had that drawing of Eren with is hair real long as their profile pic. I just don't like the 'phere. (Atmosphere.)

The animation is still so amazing, like fucking breathtaking. It's just so... brown, though. I don't really care about any of the characters, there are a few wacky ones but they're pretty generic. You've seen these achetypes in every other show. We've got Shinji but meaner, Rei but meaner, oh god this is Neon Genesis Evangelion with titans.

Seasons: 6 Episodes: 97

Baccano!

Baccano! is one of the best anime ever made for one reason. It's on a train. Finally. Finally an anime that takes place pretty much solely on a train. Aside from the flashbacks that is. In fact Baccano consist of about half flashbacks. Some to a few years ago, some to centuries ago. And you're left to wonder what this train heist show in 30's chicago has to do with settlers from the 1700s. And it all comes together in a very interesting and entertaining way.

It has so many characters that make you think how could they possibly be related to the plot. But everything's relevant. And you don't see it coming.

It's made by the creator of Durarara!! and if you've seen that then you know the style of an absurd amount of crazy characters that clash with each other.

There is a man named Jacuzzi Splot though.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 16

Baka to Test to Shokanju

AKA Baka and Test: Summon the Beasts

Baka To Test is an insane anime for people who like every anime trope ever. The story is about the dumbest boy in his grade in the worst class in his grade. His grades are so bad he does remedial work for the school.

Speaking of the school, Fumizuki Academy is actually based on a pseudo caste systems which the only way to move up is by battling avatars against other classes in order to gain their equipment. This equipment is based on your level. Class F learns on broken tables while Class A has snacks and laptops.

The story is how Class F intends to gain the best equipment in the school, proving that just because your grades are low doesn't mean you can't achieve success.

Baka to Test is very silly, it's cartoony and childish. But it also has some deeper meaning.

In Japan which school you go to is based on an entrance exam. In Baka to Test, Mizuki Himeji is sick the day of the test that will determine which class she's placed into so despite her good grades, she's placed in Class F. Minami Shimada's first language is German and can't read Kanji so she also fails. There are several characters in the show that highlight why bad grades don't necessarily mean the person is dumb.

On top of that, it's just a fun watch.

Seaons: 2 Episodes: 26

Battery

Battery is an Amazon exclusive anime that went widely unnoticed. I think I'm of the only people on earth who watched Battery and the only person who thought it was pretty good.

Battery isn't a baseball anime. Not really. In baseball anime there are matches, and tournaments, but that's not really the focus in Battery. In baseball a battery is the combination of a pitcher and catcher.

That's the kind of relationship that is explored in Battery.

It stars Takumi Harada, who's 12 apparently (I thought this kid was like 15, he has 15 energy) an amazing pitcher who's recently moved to a new town. And this town's middle school's baseball team sucks shit. Which isn't great if you're trying to be a great baseball player.

The crux of this anime is mainly Takumi not fitting in with the rest of his team in a I'm too good for this kind of way and the team just ticked off at him. He needs to learn to work together with them and also his partner Gou Nagakura.

It's giving Stars Align but slightly less gay.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 11

Banana Fish

Banana Fish is THE anime. It's the anime. You wanna watch an anime? Watch Banana fish.

The main character's name is Ash Lynx. It's fucking Ash Lynx. He's 17 and is the leader of a gang and is gonna be attacked by the mafia that raised him. His boy bestfriend, Eiji Okumura is reporting from Japan on American gangs. Why? I don't know. The point is.

Ash is trying to figure out what Banana Fish means. That's the only thing his disabled brother has muttered since he's come back from the war.

The manga was published in 1985 in a shoujo manga. So picture 80s gang war aimed at teen girls. You've got hot guys, you've got drugs, you've got homosexuality. What else do you want?

I really don't have alot else to say about it other than watch it. It's a classic story that's also an emotional rollercoaster. Its story is interesting, the characters keep you hooked. It's a good show. It's goddam Banana Fish.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 24

Binan Koukou Chikyuu Bouei-bu

AKA Cute High Earth Defense Club Love!

This anime is basically just a magical girl anime with the twist of it being guys instead. It follows the main five guys, Yumoto, En, Ryuu, Atsushi, and Io and their journey to become Battle Lovers and protect earth from three evil villains as each week they summon new monstrous threats the boys must defeat. Not without their reistance, though. They'd rather be chilling.

They are led by a pink wombat whos every other word is love, because of course they are.

The transformations are rather good looking. I always love a good magical girl transformation.

After awhile the comedy and premise start to wear down. The characters don't grow much and seem to stick to their initial trope. It just gets kind of old after awhile. It wants to only rely on the premise and not really evolve past that. It really shouldn't have had three seasons.

Binan Kokoukou is a good anime to watch if you wanna lose your damn mind.

Seasons: 3 Episodes: 36

Binbougami ga!

AKA Good Luck Girl!

Binbougami Ga! is a comedy anime about Ichiko Sakura who basically gets everything she wants. Everything comes easy to her, money, grades, everything, but this comes with a cost. She's sucking out all the luck from everyone else, something which the poverty god, Momiji Binboda needs to stop.

Now it's a war between the forces that aid Ichiko and the ones that follow Momiji in a fight for Ichiko to keep her lifestyle vs Momiji who seeks to sake everyone else's.

And maybe they learn that the real luck were the friends they made along the way.

Anyway, it's a pretty funny anime. It's got some solid bits and the chemistry between the two leads is genuinely fun to watch. In fact most of the characters are a treat to have on screen. ilu binbougami ga.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 13

Blood Lad

Blood Lad is a spit in the face of god. The anime only had 10 episodes and I can only assume they cut it off before it could scar anyone else. The anime's too horny.

This seems like it would be made just for me, but its, AHHHHHHHHHHHH. I love loser vampires, why did they fuck it up? Why is Staz so gross, why are the female characters drawn like that. Hell.

Whatever, it's about a vampire that wants to bring a girl back to life for who knows what reason. I don't know. Can you just watch a different show?

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 10

Bloom Into You

Yes! Here we go! Aromantics rise up! Yuu Koito is a demi/aromantic queen. Seiji Maki is an aromantic icon! Let's go!

Bloom Into You is a yuri anime about Yuu Koito who loves romantic stories, but she's never fallen in love. In fact, she's not sure she's capable of romance at all.

This is contrasted with the cool capable Touko Nanami who feels she's in the same boat, however Touko falls immediately for Yuu and the thought that she could relate to someone so well.

So begins the long process of Yuu trying to navigate around this romantic situation she's been put in that she kind of wants, but kind of doesn't.

It's an exploration of what love, romance, and relationships even mean and what forms they could take. I like that it's adding something new with different queer perspectives.

Also! It's! Super! Pretty!

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 13

Blue Lock

Apparently there are postions in soccer! And apparently striker is one of them, they're the ones that kick the ball into the goal.

So since there are alot of positions, you can't have a team of oops all strikers. But Blue Lock says, what if the team was all strikers anyway. But wouldn't that be terrible? Don't you need a goalie? Someone to kick it across the field? Shut up.

Blue Lock is about Yoichi Isagi, he's a striker and an okay one. But he's about to get a whole lot better.

The series starts when he gets an invitation to Blue Lock, a program meant to 24/7 train the world's best striker for Japan to win the world cup. What about school? Shut up. No school, only soccer.

Now Yoichi has to survive the program, because if he drops out, he'll never be able to play soccer professionally again. Which seems like a bad idea because these are the best teenage strikers in the country, if you get rid of all of them then there goes like, all the future strikers you have. Whatever. Shut up I guess.

The anime is extremely intense, like you kinda feel like these boys will die if they don't get goals. Like they're gonna take them out back and shoot them. Well, probably not, but there's alot we never hear from once they're gone...

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 24

Blue Period

Blue Period is about art. It's about the pursuit of art. It's about art students and the reality of art students. Spoiler, they're all queer.

But for real. Blue Period is about Yatora Yaguchi, a student who doesn't really care about anything. He doesn't know what to do, what he actually likes, until one day he walks into the art room and is transfixed.

Yatora then decides that's what he wants to do for the rest of his life. But he needs to get into art school, but there's only one free one in Tokyo and he needs to be good enough to beat every other artist that didn't start painting one year before the exam. So he dives into the art world, meeting other artists, learning new painting techniques.

I love anime that teach you things. I love learning what it's like for others to learn and sorta absorbing that knowledge from them. If you ever wanted to know what the process of painting's like, this isn't a bad introduction.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Bofuri

AKA Itai no wa Iya nanode Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoismasu AKA I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense.

Bofuri about Kaede Honjou or 'Maple,' a girl who has been invited by her friend to join New World Online, an MMO. And since this is anime, it's a fully immersive game with VR technology. She's a little scared of this technology and is afraid she'll actually get hurt so she puts all her skill points into defense, at the expanse of the rest of her skills. As this goes on she starts to get op, and completely unkillable.

Maple herself is very enjoyable to watch. It's fun to see her completely misunderstand the mechanics of the game. All her solutions to problems are usually solved by the most out of left field solutions. One of the first boss fights she has, her solution to losing her weapons is to just straight up eat it. Just gnaw on the giant lizard til it dies. This takes maybe hours. Absolute mad lad.
She's also giving just total edgelord despite being a complete cinnamon roll. The black and red armor? The ability to transform into not only a lazer mecha suit but also a giant lizard herself? Iconic.

Bofuri hits alot of the standard tropes of an isekai, I feel most of the characters are forgettable, it mostly hinges on one concept. But even if they are forgettable, they're still likable. On the whole the anime is very relax, hang out, watch a few eps, zone out for awhile. There are few stakes other than, just beat a game challenge. Despite it's similarities to Sword Art Online, no one's getting killed and even if the main character is op, it's fun and silly and the joke is how gamebreaking it is.

Well if it's that great, why is only a 6? Like I said, it's pretty forgetable, I can't remember a single characters name outside Maple, even her best friend and co main character. The world, though pretty, is generic. There's very little to write home about aside from Maple herself.

Seasons: 2 Episodes: 24

Bocchi the Rock!

Bocchi the rock is a 2023 comedy and unlike many comedies, it's actually funny. Bocchi is a girl who wants more than anything to have friends and to be noticed. But in order to do that, she actually has to GET noticed. And that's the problem.

Don't worry though! It's not long til Bocchi joins a band full of fun and colorful characters to bocchi the rock out with.

It's based off a four panel slice of life comic, so it's mostly focused on antics the characters get up to vis a vis Lucky Star or K-On. Many of its storylines involve making music, being in a band, things like shopping for instruments.

The biggest draw for Bocchi is its visual comedy, especially the out of the box animation. It'll frequently switch from 2d to 3d to irl models just for the sake of the joke. This anime thinks of a million different ways to get across that Bocchi is a nervous wreck.

I think everyone should watch Bocchi the Rock, it's got something for everyone, especially in the humor department. It's funny, it's relatable, and you might learn a thing or two about the indie music scene.

Seasons: 1 Episodes: 12

Boku no Hero Academia

AKA My Hero Academia.

BNHA is a show about the way superheroes would be integrated into a society. Would they have to go to a special school? Would they need a license? What kind of heroes have what jobs? You know how it is.

Our main character is Izuku Midoriya or 'Deku.' His only wish is to be a superhero, however, unlike everyone else in this world who has their own unique superpower, or 'quirks,' he doesn't have one. Still he's detirmined to save people even if it means putting himself at risk. This is noticed by his soon to be mentor, All Might, the top hero in Japan. All Might is actually able to share his superpower with certain people, and he decides Deku makes the cut. So Deku has to learn to control these incredible powers while learning what it really means to be a hero.

I, uh, I don't really care about BNHA. I dropped the manga after a few issues before the anime came out, and when the anime did come out I watched about three seasons before dipping. There are alot of things I like about it, though. I like the art styles, I like how influenced it is by western comics and cartoons. All Might being American Man was pretty funny, this man's name is Tonishnori Yagi.

I like many of the character designs, I think alot of their powers are pretty unique. However, it all feels sort of sterile. Like I know there are stakes, but it doesn't really feel like it, it's too saturday morning cartoon. Even when bad stuff does happen, I'm not really invested, I feel like it's just going to be undone in a few episodes.

Characters lose their quirks throughout the course of the show, ruining their careers and dreams, and yet I just don't think it'll stick. A character died recently in the manga and people are like, ok so when will he be back. idk I just dont buy it.

There's also been alot of discourse about the treatment of the female characters. And like, a lot of the female characters a pretty good, but they're also underutilized and underdeveloped. Wasn't Uraka supposed to be a main character? Where is she? Because even when female characters do show up they fall victim to the shounen trope of just sort of being there.

Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu

AKA The Dangers in My Heart.

This anime is about Kyoutarou Ichikawa, an angsty teen who reads true crime and thinks he's some twisted sad killer. He often looks over to his classmate, Anna Yamada, and fantasizes about killing her. You might think this is a bad set up to a wholesome love story but you'd be wrong.

No one really thinks this, especially not Yamada. Silly girl swag recognizes silly boy swag. They're autism4autism if you ask me. Most of their interactions are Yamada does dumb shit and Ichikawa losing his mind on how to keep her from trouble. Like getting banned from the library for eating snacks. Most of the series is Yamada trying to beam 'I know you like me bitch ask me out already' thoughts into Ichikawa's brain, where as he's too insecure to think someone like her could like him. It seems like it could be frustrating but honestly I don't really care if they get together, they act like a couple anyways.

The thing about Yamada is, she's nuts. She's a model, extremely tall, the most popular girl in class, and acts like a lunatic. Watching her is just so entertaining. She's just a silly little girl who hands her trash to strangers and doesn't understand social norms. Meanwhile Ichikawa is just acting out an edgy character that he assumes most people think of him. After all he reads books on horror, and never talks to anyone. Clearly he must be a creepy stalker.

However, it is a little too horny for characters that are in middle school. I don't know why they didn't just make them at least high schoolers, it would have made things make much more sense.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

AKA Haganai

This anime is about a boy named Kodaka Hasegawa who has just transferred to a new school. Kodaka doesn't have many friends and wants to make a few this time. But, people immediately think he's a deliquent and no one wants to be friends with him! Oh no!

After about a month he shows up to an empty classroom and finds Yozora Mikazuki who also doesn't have any friends.

Will these two friendless people find friendship in each other? Yes. Will they eventually get new members in their Neighbor's club, a club for people wihtout friends? Yes.

There aren't alot of twists and turns here.

It's a harem anime with too many characters that aren't really interesting. The humor is kind of your every day fanservice. It's just sort of there and doesn't really add anything. It's mostly just trying to be waifu bait I think.

Bokura no

Bokurano is like Madoka Magica but with giant robots. It came out in the far off year of 2007 and is based off a 2003 manga.

It starts with 15 children who are all staying at a camp on vacation when they find a cave on a beach, inside it Kokopelli. He tells them of a game, where they each can pilot a giant robot and save earth from invading aliens. Everyone's like, sounds sick, let's do it, not knowing it's a real giant robot with real aliens they have to fight.

Then every episode follows the friends as each week another alien robot appears they have to fight, lest the earth is destroyed. In the cockpit of the robot they find a circle of chairs, each assigned to one of them. A creature called Koyemshi appears and tells them he's their guide. He tells them how to pilot the robot, how one of them is the captain each time, and how to defeat the enemy.

The robot is named by them, Zearth. One this about Bokura no is the opening slaps, like's it's everything to me. I heard this op even before I knew it came from a show, people were just using it is sad anime edits.

Another thing about Bokurano, great character writing. Thought not all the characters are memorable, the stories surrounding those characters are, there are a couple of episodes devoted to each of them, their lives, their struggles, and really makes you sypathize with them.

The atmosphere is moody and intense. I can't get in too deep into the plot because the end of the first episode and what it means for the rest of the characters is muy excellente, so tense. Bokurano falls into one of my favorite genres which is, kids having a bad time. A good way to describe it is musical chairs crossed with the trolley problem, but you are the one tied to the tracks.

You would probably like this series if you like anime like Madoka Magica or Neon Genesis Evangelion.

Bokura wa Minna Kawaisou

AKA The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior.

This anime follows Kazunari Usa, a student who just started living alone. He then starts to live in a boarding house with an array of wacky characters, usually female. Love Hina ass plot.

It starts with him showing up to the Kawai complex only to find out only insane people live there and deciding to dip, but on his way out he sees the girl he's been having romantic fantasies about all day right outside. Apparently she lives there too and this is cause enough for him to stay.

It's mainly a slice of life with a bit of romance dashed in with the main love interest being Ritsu Kawai, a shy studious student from his high school. They really lean hard on the studious aspect, every promotional shot has this bitch with a book. The other characters are pretty likable but they could still use a little move depth. Sayaka best girl though.

Something I don't like about the series is the art style. I think the lighting is a little too much, it just adds another layer of detail that makes the image feel busy. And the background piano is so loud. I find the pacing and the jokes a little visually weird but they often work.

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan

AKA Bludgeoning Angel Dokuro-chan

Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan is well, hm. It's an anime that has characters that, well.

Ok Dokuro-chan is an angel who wields a giant club named Excaliborg which she used to repeatedly murder and revive the main character, Sakura Kusakabe. She does this in order to prevent him from developing a method of stopping women from aging, creating a future world made of lolis.

So that's what happens... in this... anime.

I watched this anime when I was in middle school on youtube on my ipod touch. I feel like that adds context to why I watched it. My options were limited.

Regardless I liked it, I was really into watching anime with blood but not edgy gorefest ones. I like the contrals from cute to covered in blood. I like how absurd it is. In theory. On a more real level I think it's kind of unenjoyable to watch. The joke gets old very fast and characters don't have enough going on to keep me invested. It is onlky 6 episodes long, though.

Boruto

Boruto is the sequel series to Naruto. And it is a pale comparison. Literally. It's not nearly as dark. It's too smooth, polished, and there are very little if any stakes.

Whereas Naruto begins with the characters graduating ninja school and going on life or death missions, the characters of Boruto just sort of hang out. The lack of stakes is most present in the chunin exams where a good portion of the exam takes place in the death forest, Boruto's is a pretty simple test of skill.

One can contribute this to the fact that things have changed, the ninja war is over. These are peaceful times. It's also boring. Where's the bite? It takes away some of the few good aspects of Naruto. And sure it has better female characters... barely.

They did make most of the older generation female characters housewives, despite the fact they went to ninja school to be ninjas and their husbands get to be, you know, ninjas.

There characters are okay. Most of them being decendants of the previous generation. That all happened to have kids in the same year I guess.
The style is just, nothing. Where's the grit and grime? Where's the flavor? They swapped the ramen for burgers. I can't even recognize the series anymore.

Brand New Animal

Brand New Animal, or BNA is about a human girl named Michiru minding her own damn business them bam, furried. Michiru has been turned into a beastman. Beastmen are people who can turn into anthropomorphic animals, the majority of which, live in Anima City because of ostracization from humans.

In Anima City there is a problem, though, some beastmen have been going berzerk.

BNA is produced by Studio Trigger, a company known for their fantastic animation, but not always fantastic endings. And it does feel rushed. Lots of plot threads are sort of crammed into one episode and the villain is underwhelming.

I love that there's a baseball episode. If an anime has a baseball episode, I'll watch it. They really wanted people to like these characters, but no one ever talks about Brand New Animal, unless they're being into the wolf.

Buddy Daddies

We have spy x family at home. The spy x family at home: a four course meal. Buddy Daddies is an unfortunate name for an anime that will rip out your soul and leave you bleeding on the ground. It's the anime version of that cat screaming and crying picture.

It's about two hitmen who live with and carry out jobs together. They also parent the child of one of their targets together. Miri is the name of the daughter and admittedly is pretty annoying at first, but then you start to like her presence onscreen. She's not just their child, she's yours too. You are a buddy daddy.

I didn't think I'd like Buddy Daddies, I don't normally like kids or parenting or stories about them, but the characters here are just too wholesome. It deals alot with the actual realities of taking care of a kid. Paperwork, buying clothes, going to field day. It's a story about how these two guys who are so unattached, even from Miri at first, only seeing her as a temporary thing even when she doesn't have anywhere else to go. It shows how they grow to love and care about her.

Bungou Stray Dogs

Bungou Stray Dogs hasn't left my brain in four years. It just lives there now. I'm part Bungou Stray Dogs. Initially I first watched it, thought, eh it's okay, and then stopped after episode 4. Then I saw an image of a lovely boy and thought, okay sign me up. So I started again, and watched three seasons in one night.

It starts with Atsushi Nakajima, a boy recently kicked out of his orphanage for mysterious reasons. He then runs into a mysterious figure floating in the river, this figure is one of our main characters, Dazai Osamu, he is soon joined by his partner Kunikida Doppo.

In this world some people have 'abilities,' your standard some characters have a super power no one else has. Except what I like in this show is that they go goddam wild with the parameters of that. Oh you can cut through anything with your sword? How about you cut through time itself. Oh you can control gravity? How about you can create literal black holes. Any of these other shows could never.

The thing about Bungo Stray Dogs is, all the characters are based on Japanese authors, later western authors show up but who cares. And their abilites are named after one of their popular works. This could be essays, novels, or poems.

For instance, Dazai Osamu's most popular novel is No Longer Human and that's the name of the ability. Some of these are more on the nose than others. No Longer Human nullifies other abilities, which, sure, I guess. And Thou Shalt Not Die, well keeps you alive.

How does 'Midwinter Memento' make you control metal though?

The series also has several light novels that are all pretty good. (Though if you don't want to read these they're usually adapted in some seasons.)
